How could I know
this cup
this cracked pale cup
this blemished cup in which I take my tea
would last
last through filling
and washing
and tipping
and emptying
and gentle handling
and careful fingered tracing of the lines
lines once painted on with skill by an artist’s hand
the artist
that didn’t have to paint around
the crack.
